Take the first step in faith.
You don’t have to see the whole staircase,
just take the first step.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Wednesday, August 26, will begin another school year for the students at LCHS. For some this is the beginning of their final year; celebrating the completion of the basic educational stepping stones in life. For others it is the beginning of a new chapter; walking into the coveted high school halls of academic achievement and sports titles. For our new dorm students, this is the year for a fresh start in a new community where they can lay off the strongholds of peer pressure and academic weights from previous schools.
One of the “greats” about Lustre Christian High School is the community that surrounds and supports the school. Today the community gathered for a second school cleanup day; not only to remove the staleness of summer break, but to eliminate any traces of the entrance remodel. From elementary, to high school to middle age; community members washed, waxed, wiped, painted, and moved about the school in preparation for that first beginning day.
The LCHS dorm exists to “encourage [students] spiritual, academic, and overall growth through consistently demonstrating Christ to them through discipline and example.” Our dorm students worked among these community members, caring for the school that provides much more than just an academic experience. Today was an opportunity for them to give back in service and bond deeper with the people who make this school the success it has become.
As the students trickle into the dorm this week, it is a pleasure to meet each and every one. What a blessing to renew friendships with returning students and get to know those who are new. This is going to be a great 2015-2016 school year!
