Traditionally, Labor Day weekend is good time to get the dorm students off campus and go to the Lake with the Dorm Committee families. This weekend, however, was forecasted for rain and cool temperatures so we had to come up with a different plan. Sleeping Buffalo Resort, past Saco, was remodeled by new owners and opened 9 months ago. We had heard good reports from other local people so decided to give it a try.

Immediately after Sunday church service, we headed out. We ate sack lunches in the car on the way. Whenever you travel somewhere new, it seems to take longer and the students were ready to get out of the van after the 2 hour ride.

The facilities were very nice: clean, lots of windows for natural light, and plenty of options for different interests. There was a large warm pool, a small cold pool, a hot tub (106*F), and a steam room. The students were a little repulsed by the green color of the water but we were told that it is the algae that is natural to this particular spring. The pool is regenerated every day to provide a clean swimming environment.

One of the favorite activities of the day was playing keep away with a plastic ball: boys against girls. The players changed often but the game went on for hours. It was a good time for the students to bond as a group in a playful setting. The day was also an opportunity for the Dorm Committee members to get to know the kids better and talk about how life in the dorm has been going.

The facilities also provides a limited menu and assorted drink options. The kitchen baked up some pizzas for our supper meal. The students ate and then returned to the pool for another hour of play/relaxation.

The way home went faster; there was much laughter and girls singing to various songs on the radio. We did stop at Albertsons for anyone who wanted to pick up a few personal items. The sunset was a beautiful conclusion to a fun filled day. A big thank you to John and Natalie who sponsored this event; thank you!
