High School graduation is a time of excitement. It is a time of looking back through the years that have formed children into adults. It is a time of looking ahead with anticipation of a bright and unknown future. Of the 7 LCHS graduates, the dorm was home to three of them: Brady, Gabriella, and Harry.
Brady was a transfer student this year from small town Montana. He has family in the Lustre community so came to us with prior knowledge of the area and school. At first Brady was shy and kept mostly to himself but as the fall semester progressed he became like an older brother to many of our dorm students. That more mature, slightly annoying, dry humorous laugh, kind of brother. Brady plans to attend MSU-Bozeman’s AG department.
Gabriella came to LCHS from Italy in 2016, following her brother’s footsteps. She came to play basketball. As the youngest child, being away from home was a hard transition. However, Gabriella is a strong woman who knows how to persevere to get what she wants in life. Gabriella worked hard on and off the court. She loves to laugh and was in the middle of any board game fun. Gabriella received a tuition-free scholarship from Williston College where she will play basketball with the Lady Tetons.
Harry is a Vietnam student who came as a transfer from a Pennsylvania school. His first year in the US was a tormenting and challenging year, but he found people and a swim team who supported him. When Harry arrived in Lustre every sentence out of his mouth had the word, “Pennsylvania,” in it! His family in PA continued to support him throughout his year at LCHS, but he also developed lasting relationships in Lustre. Harry will return to Vietnam for the summer. He hopes to return to the US in pursuit of a degree at a Pennsylvania university.
To celebrate these three graduates, the dorm hosted a party to honor them. To kick off the afternoon the students, dorm staff families, and guests played a hilarious game of kickball on the baseball field. A memorable event was Gilbert’s shoe flying farther than the ball he kicked! And coach Randy caught way more than his fair share of air balls. Afterwards, the meal was eaten in good fellowship with one another. Of course everyone talked about what would be the graduates next steps in life.
Graduation Day was a beautiful, sunny Sunday. Following the church services, the community ladies put out a potluck feast. Graduates then rushed home to prepare the final touches in preparation for the ceremonies. At 3:00pm the graduation ceremony commenced. Pastor John opened in prayer. Kaitlyn and Thomas addressed their class. Mrs. M. Zerbe was the class chosen guest speaker. A crowd favorite is the traditional senior videos, produced by Kylie. Mr. Leland announced each student by his/her college plans and any scholarships. Mr. Young and Mr. K. Toavs greeted each graduate and handed out diplomas. Pastor Frank closed the ceremony in prayer. Congratulations LCHS class of 2018!
