Basketball is a lifelong game.
You continue to learn from the game day in and day out,
and all along the way, you get better.
—Scottie Pippen
Many of our dorm students this ball season were new to the game. Some of them even starting beyond the halfway point in the season. One of my favorite aspects of the game from the cheering section is watching the players improve individually and also as a team as they work together towards the same goal.
Our girl’s team had a lot to overcome. The team was 7 players, three of which were inexperienced players. Game after game the girls pulled out the win, surprising their opponents. The biggest upset was when the Lady Lions beat North Country on their own home court. The Lion’s were roaring that night! The boys team had a difficult season. Though their bench was stacked, they had a tough time playing together as a team. Both teams played hard at District Tournament but were unable to move into the championship bracket. Neither team advanced to Divisional Tournaments.
All along the way basketball is a learning experience. Players learn from each other, they learn respect for authority toward coaches, they learn teamwork and seek the determination to play harder and better. Lustre Lion ball players do play for the win, but they also play for excellence. Aristotle once said, ‘Excellence is not a singular act; it’s a habit. You are what you repeatedly do.’
